ALLENTOWN, Pa, April 14, 2024 – Did you ever wonder how the sun powers our lives? The Solar Energy interactive neighborhood exhibit at the Da Vinci Science Center at PPL Pavilion invites visitors to find out!
Presented by PPL and supported by the All Points North Foundation, the Solar Energy interactive neighborhood promises to ignite curiosity and experimentation, capturing the spirit of Leonardo Da Vinci.
Visitors use one of five small mirrors mounted on gimbals to redirect light from overhead spotlights towards small solar panels on the rooftops of buildings. When light hits the solar panels, they activate LEDs, giving the impression of illuminated windows in the homes attached to the solar panels.
The exhibit raises awareness about the importance of sustainable investments in buildings and their impact on energy efficiencies, the carbon footprint, water use, and air quality. The building features will be incorporated into environmental education programs at the science center to educate visitors about ways they can contribute positively to the environment – including using solar energy to power their homes and businesses.
